Face Grain

Most wood plugs are end grain. Face grain cuts show the natural wood pattern across the plug face — blending with the surrounding surface after finishing rather than standing apart from it.

30+ Species

Hard maple, white oak, western red cedar, IPE, and more. Every species selected for grain clarity and cut quality, milled in small batches in Portland, Oregon.

Handcrafted to Order

No mass production, no warehouse inventory. Every order is cut, inspected, and packed by hand before it ships.

Western Red Cedar Wood Plugs
from $3.20

Western Red Cedar is the Pacific Northwest's signature wood — naturally resistant to moisture, rot, and insects, with a warm reddish tone and straight grain that weathers beautifully in exterior applications. It's the species deck builders, fence contractors, and boat builders reach for when the project needs to last.

These are face grain plugs, milled so the grain runs across the top of the plug the same way it runs through your surrounding material. The result is a flush installation that disappears into the wood rather than announcing itself.

I hand select every board before it gets cut. Western Red Cedar varies considerably in grain density and color — I'm looking for consistent tight grain and clean color that gives you a predictable result across an entire pack.

Available in 9 sizes: 1/4", 5/16", 3/8", 7/16", 1/2", 5/8", 3/4", 7/8", 1"

Pack quantities: 10, 25, 50, 100, 250, 500, 1,000, 2,500

Also available in metric sizing — see my Western Red Cedar Metric Wood Plugs listing.

White Oak Wood Plugs
from $6.14

White Oak has had a moment in furniture and cabinetry and it's not hard to understand why — warm golden tone, tight straight grain, and a natural luster that finishes beautifully whether you're going raw, oiled, or stained. It's also one of the most durable domestic hardwoods available, which is why it's been used in boat building and barrel making for centuries.

These are face grain plugs, milled so the grain runs across the top of the plug the same way it runs through your surrounding material. The result is a flush installation that disappears into the wood rather than announcing itself.

I hand select every board before it gets cut. White Oak's medullary rays — those characteristic fleck patterns in the grain — vary board to board. I'm looking for consistent ray pattern and color that gives you a cohesive result across an entire pack.

Available in 9 sizes: 1/4", 5/16", 3/8", 7/16", 1/2", 5/8", 3/4", 7/8", 1"

Pack quantities: 10, 25, 50, 100, 250, 500, 1,000, 2,500

Also available in metric sizing — see my White Oak Metric Wood Plugs listing.

Eastern Red Cedar Wood Plugs
from $3.20

Eastern Red Cedar is the aromatic cedar — the species used in hope chests, closet linings, and anywhere the natural moth-repelling oils matter as much as the wood itself. It's a warmer, redder tone than Western Red Cedar with a more pronounced figure and that distinctive cedar scent that tells you immediately what you're working with.

These are face grain plugs, milled so the grain runs across the top of the plug the same way it runs through your surrounding material. The result is a flush installation that disappears into the wood rather than announcing itself.

I hand select every board before it gets cut. Eastern Red Cedar's natural figure means color and grain can vary considerably — I'm looking for consistent color and tight grain that gives you a predictable result across an entire pack.

Available in 9 sizes: 1/4", 5/16", 3/8", 7/16", 1/2", 5/8", 3/4", 7/8", 1"

Pack quantities: 10, 25, 50, 100, 250, 500, 1,000, 2,500

Also available in metric sizing — see my Eastern Red Cedar Metric Wood Plugs listing.

IPE Wood Plugs
from $5.12

IPE is the benchmark for exterior hardwood — dense enough to sink in water, naturally resistant to rot, insects, and UV, and that distinctive olive-brown tone that weathers to a distinguished silver-grey if left unfinished or holds its color beautifully with periodic oiling. If you're building an IPE deck, you need IPE plugs. Nothing else matches.

These are face grain plugs, milled so the grain runs across the top of the plug the same way it runs through your surrounding material. The result is a flush installation that matches your decking material precisely.

I hand select every board before it gets cut. IPE's extreme density makes clean milling critical — I'm working with sharp tooling and careful feed rates to give you plugs with clean faces and consistent dimensions.

Available sizes: 3/8" — additional sizes available, contact for current availability.

Pack quantities: 10, 25, 50, 100, 250, 500, 1,000, 2,500

Also available in metric sizing — see my IPE Metric Wood Plugs listing.

Douglas Fir Wood Plugs
from $3.20

Douglas Fir is the structural backbone of Pacific Northwest construction — strong, straight-grained, and that warm reddish-brown tone that finish carpenters and craftsman woodworkers have worked with for generations. It's the species in the floors, the trim, and the framing of countless homes across the region.

These are face grain plugs, milled so the grain runs across the top of the plug the same way it runs through your surrounding material. The result is a flush installation that disappears into the wood rather than announcing itself.

I hand select every board before it gets cut. Douglas Fir's tight grain and consistent color make it one of the more predictable species to work with — I'm looking for boards with the cleanest grain pattern and most consistent reddish-brown tone.

Available in 9 sizes: 1/4", 5/16", 3/8", 7/16", 1/2", 5/8", 3/4", 7/8", 1"

Pack quantities: 10, 25, 50, 100, 250, 500, 1,000, 2,500

American Cherry Wood Plugs
from $4.00

American Cherry is one of the defining hardwoods of American furniture making — warm reddish-brown tones that deepen with age and light exposure, fine straight grain, and a surface that takes finish beautifully. Every serious woodworker who builds with cherry eventually needs plugs, and end grain substitutes don't do the species justice.

These are face grain plugs, milled so the grain runs across the top of the plug the same way it runs through your surrounding material. The result is a flush installation that disappears into the wood rather than announcing itself.

I hand select every board before it gets cut. Cherry's color can vary considerably between boards — I'm selecting for consistent warm tone and clean, tight grain that gives you a cohesive result across a pack.

Available in 9 sizes: 1/4", 5/16", 3/8", 7/16", 1/2", 5/8", 3/4", 7/8", 1"

Pack quantities: 10, 25, 50, 100, 250, 500, 1,000, 2,500

Also available in metric sizing — see the American Cherry Metric Wood Plugs listing.
