About
I grew up in Nebraska and spent the better part of two decades building custom homes in Omaha before the Pacific Northwest called loud enough that I had to answer. I've been based in Portland for five years now and I can't imagine building anywhere else.
I came to wood plugs the way most good ideas arrive — out of necessity. I was on a job site needing cedar plugs that matched the project and simply couldn't find what I needed. So I bought a drill press, started milling my own, and solved the problem the way builders do. What I didn't expect was that other people were looking for the same thing. I put a few listings online and the shop grew from there.
I've always worked with my hands in more than one way. Building by day, in the darkroom by night — experimental film photography has been a constant alongside the construction work, not something I left behind. Learning how light and patience and attention to small details change everything carries over whether you're framing a house or printing a photograph or milling a plug.
Every board that comes through my shop gets looked at before it gets cut. I spend extra time at the lumber yard picking through stock because the difference between a good plug and a great one starts before the drill press ever touches wood. These aren't mass produced. They're small batch, hand selected, and held to a standard I'd use on my own projects.
I make face grain plugs and dowels in more species and sizes than anyone else I've found. Western Red Cedar, Eastern Red Cedar, Douglas Fir, Hard Maple, White Oak, Sapele, IPE, and a growing list of specialty hardwoods and exotics. Imperial and metric sizing. Small packs for the weekend project and contractor quantities for the job site.
If you're looking for something specific or have a project that needs a custom solution — just send me a message.
