Eastern Red Cedar is the aromatic cedar — the species used in hope chests, closet linings, and anywhere the natural moth-repelling oils matter as much as the wood itself. It's a warmer, redder tone than Western Red Cedar with a more pronounced figure and that distinctive cedar scent that tells you immediately what you're working with.
These are face grain plugs, milled so the grain runs across the top of the plug the same way it runs through your surrounding material. The result is a flush installation that disappears into the wood rather than announcing itself.
I hand select every board before it gets cut. Eastern Red Cedar's natural figure means color and grain can vary considerably — I'm looking for consistent color and tight grain that gives you a predictable result across an entire pack.
